Miaow...
This is Rodney. Rodney lives with Ernie and Norman, much to their distaste! He was born sometime in 1988, and was originally called 'Tigger Tyrannosaurus Garfield'. Tigger, because of his stripes; Tyrannosaurus because when he was a kitten he used to fight with his front paws while sitting back on his hind legs; and Garfield because of his huge eyes.
Rodney came to live with Ernie and Norman during the winter of 2001/2002. For at least 3 years that we know of he'd been living outside and fending for himself. He'd become terribly thin and was losing his fur. With a little encouragement, he started accepting small amounts of food put outside for him, and he eventually started coming inside to eat.
He was suffering from fleas, so a flea collar was fitted to provide some relief. One day, a man was noticed talking to Rodney in the street - it turns out that Rodney used to live with him when his wife was still alive, but after her death events had led to Rodney drifting into homelessness. This man had not even noticed that Rodney had been wearing a collar for the past month, and when asked he agreed to let Rodney make his new home wherever he wanted.
So, it was official - Rodney had a new home. A trip to the vet's confirmed a suspicion that his fur loss was caused by a flea allergy, and with regular treatment he's turned out to have a lovely coat. He also suffers from Arthritis and so isn't very active. He likes nothing better than to sit by the window and guarding the cat flap from intruders. He's become very territorial, and Ernie and Norman often have to remind him that they have as much right to use the catflap as him!
He who dares Rodders, he who dares.....
