Golly

Golly's Second Brush With Trouble

All was well following Golly's leg, or so I thought. You'd think she'd learn her lesson wouldn't you? Well, the following April (April Fool's Day to be exact) she came home at some point after I'd gone to bed for the night. I'd got up during the middle of the night for some reason, and saw her asleep in the living room. She normally sleeps on the bed with me, but I thought nothing of the fact that she was in the living room. In the morning I picked her up and carried her back to bed with me when she flicked her tail. There was blood everywhere!

Further inspection revealed that the tip of her tail was missing, and it looked pretty mangled, so it was off to the vet. The vet cleaned her up and bandaged the tail to protect it from infection with the idea that as it healed the skin would grow over the tip.

But this is Golly we're talking about! My little princess decided that life would be too easy if her tail healed as expected. Instead of the skin growing over the bone at the tip like it was supposed to, it grew away - leaving raw bone exposed. She had to have this part amputated, and I have to say it was a sorry sight when the bandage from her tail was removed! But that's not the end of it. She developed an infection which needed more treatment, and there was concern for a while that a further amputation would be necessary!

Luckily, her tail healed and now that the fur has grown back she just looks as though she's got a stumpy tail!
