Golly's first brush with trouble occurred in August 2000. We think she was attacked by a fox due to the extent of her injuries, but somehow she managed to drag herself home and through the open kitchen window in the middle of the night. Her vet discovered she'd broken her rear right leg - the bone had snapped - and she needed stitches in her paws. The original diagnosis was that with some rest and her leg bandaged up with a splint she would be fine.
The vet wanted to see her after 4 weeks thinking the break should have healed by then. Golly was up to her usual tricks of running around the place like a mad thinG, even with her leg in plaster, so I didn't think the bone would have healed. I gave her 6 weeks before returning to the vet. Unfortunately, the bone hadn't healed at all, so it was back to the drawing board. The vet said that normally the bone would have started to fuse, especially in a cat so young. The vet suggested that the bone should be pinned in order for it to heal, so off she went for the operation. When the bandage came off I noticed that the cut made to insert the pin had not healed properly, and the pin was sticking out. Back to the vets!
The poor little thing couldn't walk at all with her leg like that, so the vet had to see her again and sort her out. She came back under strict instructions to keep quiet, which she ignored anyway! Eventually, the pin did its job and the bone fused, and by then it was the middle of November!
